We are excited to announce our Bookkeeping Course in  partnership with Young People at Work!  

 

This Short Course in Bookkeeping aims to give students a solid understanding of the various bookkeeping functions, covering the entire accounting cycle. The curriculum is designed to equip students with both the practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed for a successful career in bookkeeping.

 

The course also integrates Accounting Technology Applications, ensuring that candidates understand the world of Financial Technology.  The course is 10 weeks long. Online classes are done via Google Classroom and you will be given a class code to join or held face to face at Parow Library every Saturday from 9am to 11.30am.

Full cost of the online course is R 1 450. R250 deposit secures you a seat and then remainder can be paid in instalments. Full balance must be settled before the Certificate of Achievement can be issued.  You need to use your full name as payment reference.  

 

Candidates will receive an email with further instructions and banking details to enrol for the course. Candidates will receive a certificate of Achievement, after they have completed the  assessments and assignments.  

 

Below is an outline of the course structure in detail:

Module 1: Bookkeeping Fundamental  

​

• Understanding basic accounting terminology

• Differentiating between income, expenses, assets, liabilities, and equity

• Understanding the accounting cycle

• List the common source documents to start with basic bookkeeping.

• Identifying the steps to recording financial transactions  

 

 Module 2: Introduction to Accounting Technology Systems  

​

• Overview of bookkeeping software most used.

• Identifying various invoicing apps for small business

• Introduction to free cloud-based accounting systems to get started.

• Linking the system steps from cashbook to trial balance

• Understand the data processing system using an accounting system.

• Overview of basic financial reports that can be generated from the system.

• Identifying accounting software providers offering certification  

 

Module 3: MS Excel For Data Capturing

• Introduction to MS Excel

• Overview of MS Excel features and basic formulas for bookkeeping

• Converting PDF documents to CSV

• Editing converted Excel sheets to import data into accounting software.  

 

Module 4: Bookkeeping to Trial Balance  

​

• Understanding the purpose of various journals

• Identifying the financial categories to allocate transactions to

• Revision of accounting cycle for practical application

• Practical application of bookkeeping with use of case studies

• Completion of a set of books for a company example  

 

Module 5: Understanding and Interpreting Financial Statements  

 

• Understanding the role of management reports and annual financial statements

• Differentiating between management reports and annual financial statements

• Overview of reports found in a basic set of management accounts and annual financial statements.

• Practical application by creating an income statement and balance sheet.

• Basic analysis of the business using financial reports to evaluate the financial position and performance.
